Nathaniel Newton School Plantroom

Project Overview

· Duration: 6 weeks (plus some live-term works)

D & T Mechanical was appointed by Dodd Group to deliver a complete strip-out and replacement of the school’s ageing plantroom.

Key works included:

· Removal, isolation, and drain down of existing services.

· Installation of three new boilers, with pre-fabricated 4″ heating headers and 80mm gas pipework.

· Traditional screwed pipework on site, with larger-bore heating fabricated off site for faster installation.

· Press-fit copper domestic services to a new hot water cylinder, expansion vessel, and microfill unit.

· All plant fitted with individual drain points, feeding into a new 2″ solvent weld float.

The works were carried out on a live school site. While most of the installation was completed during the six-week summer break, some activity continued while the school was operational. Ensuring that heating and water services remained available to staff and pupils required careful planning and phased works.

Dodd Group selected D & T Mechanical following a competitive tender. with no direct labour available for this project, Dodd needed a partner who could guarantee quality delivery and reliability. D & T impressed on a previous project and quickly became a trusted supply chain partner.

The plantroom upgrade was delivered within programme, to a high standard, and with minimal disruption to the school’s operation. The offsite fabrication element reduced time on site and improved safety.
